new music: the deep red sky

Hailing from Scotland, alt-indie quintet The Deep Red Sky have had a pretty brilliant 2013 so far hitting many big milestones for a relatively new band. This October sees the band covering the hit single 'Kids' by indie pop big hitters of 2008, MGMT. You can check out their cover below:

Stripping the song back to basics on this version and focussing more on the lyrics which gives you a whole new take on this track that was all over the radio 5 years ago. With gentle acoustic guitar, a prominent bass line and soft keys open this track before the vocals come in, layering up in the chorus giving them that extra impact of standing out more against the music before taking things up in the chorus with crashing percussion and almost dirty riffs backing up the screamed final chorus.

Their different sound combining everything from guitar distortion to glockenspiel has gained many fans and plenty of praise from critics and the music blogosphere alike after they released their debut 'Plans' back in May. Gaining airplay with their singles from the likes of Amazing Radio, Radio Scotland and Absolute Radio has seen the band get out to a wider audience. Creating songs that are radio friendly sitting well on plenty of playlists without sacrificing creativity or experimentation in their sound taking influence from post rock bands.

This year also saw the band return to The Edinburgh Fringe and The Acoustic Music Centre at St Brides after selling out back to back dates last year. With touring and an album release, the band are starting to turn heads from all over and the reaction has been very positive with The Whiteboard Project having this to say about the five piece; "A convincing and accomplished album from one of Scotland's most exciting young bands"

The rest of 2013 will see the band touring with Northern Ireland's Amidships starting on 20th October in Inverness and finishing up in Manchester on 27th taking in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Liverpool on the way. This cover is the band's current single and is available to buy through iTunes and other online stores now.
